  1. I have just discovered your Blog and Research page. I have been doing genealogy for quite some time. I saw your picture of Sugar Loaf Mountain in Ireland and I was wondering if that is where the name came from for “Sugar Loaf Mountain” in Campbellton, New Brunswick and if that was the case would you know if this area was settled by Wicklow Irish.

    1. Hi Ann,

I don’t know if that is where the name came from for the Sugarloaf Mountain in New Brunswick.

It would be a consideration that if it is named after the one in Ireland that settlers may have come from Wicklow.

I would try and find out the history behind the mountain in New Brunswick and see if a link can be made. Since it is part of Sugar Loaf Provincial Park I would try New Brunswick Parks.

We have always called it the Sugar Loaf in Ireland but the name is the Great Sugar Loaf and there is also the Little Sugar Loaf.

      Regards,
      Ruth Blair
